Talking newspapers and magazines can be a vital way for blind and sight-impaired people to stay in touch with the world. In Gloucestershire, there are 6 different organisations that produce talking news for all areas of the county.
These recordings are delivered on either USB memory stick or a CD. Insight’s Resource Centre stocks various different players to play these recordings on and can also give advice and details on which talking newspaper is suitable for you. Accessible reading
Reading is a hobby enjoyed by many when sight deteriorates this can become more difficult. Most local libraries will have a selection of large print reading material and a variety of talking books. These are usually available on CD and cassette although some libraries are now offering them on USB memory sticks.
Digital Books
Gloucestershire libraries are also now offering a service whereby you can download talking books from the internet and play them on an MP3 player or through a computer.

Talking Books
You can also access talking books through Calibre Audio Library which has over 7000 titles, or the RNIB talking book service which has over 30, 000 titles, all read by professional actors.
